We use roundup to kill poison ivy that's farther away from the house and the garden, but I don't like spraying any chemicals anywhere near the house/food sources/anything I don't want to die. Everywhere else we just smother it out. I cut back the leaves then we keep a big roll of black plastic to cover it with, smother it dead, then we dig up the roots. It's everywhere around here, and no matter how hard we try to keep it away from the house another patch pops up every year.
